Okay, this is probably going to be made even harder by the fact that I can't get to the picture I'm talking about right now, so there's no visual.... A few years ago, I was at a local fair in Alpharetta, Georgia, and I bought a greeting card that was, I think, a print, not an original, by a woman artist. The picture shows a mermaid - but she's a bit plump, with a short black bob haircut and an anchor tatoo. She doesn't look sexy or happy, like most mermaids, but sort of washed up after a hard night, or life. Yet the artist's style is sort of whimisical and "pretty". From what I remember, the artist had a lot of these mermaid paintings - slightly different, but mermaids who definitely didn't look conventional.
